In any graphic novel, which is the category I'm choosing to lump this book in with, we have four areas to review: World Building, Character Development, Plot, and Art.
1. World Building - the super nice thing about a story that takes place in modern day New York is there is pretty NO world building to be done. Which makes it an easy story to get into.
2. Character Development - So these characters are SUPER cliched, but that doesn't make them bad, it makes them hilarious. They are like any sitcom you see on TV, they might not be unique, but they don't have to be for you to enjoy them.
3. Plot - This is a daily comic strip and so the plot isn't that smooth. Each page is pretty much a complete story. Not my favorite graphic format, but still enjoyable enough to read. This is real life people.
4. Art - I like the super simple style of these panels. It is just line and ink ... no coloring, no shading. But it really works for this format. If you're super stuck on color and shiny pages you'll be disappointed, this isn't a superhero book.
The break down - If you're in your early twenties or remember your early twenties and you have a sense of humor you'll enjoy this book. If you aren't sure you can check out all of the comics at Octopus Pie.
Rating: **** (maybe this is a bit inflated, but the rating on Goodreads was REALLY low, which I didn't think was fair)
