by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
Why Did I Pick It Up:
To be honest, this book has an awesome cover and I saw it on a "to be shelved" cart at the library. I vaguely remember reading a review on it and it was on my GoodReads to-read list. But really, it has a great cover.
The Good:
Where to start. I love these Romeo and Juliet novels. Star-crossed lovers. Two characters that are so different they are drawn to each other and Lilac and Tarver do not lack chemistry. They argue at the height of passion and there were so many moments in early chapters that I thought they would kiss ... but like good authors, Amie and Meagan make us wait. The interview page between each chapter really drove the plot along and I seriously had a hard time putting the book down. When the chapter would end I would HAVE to read the page of interview and after the interview I HAD to read the next chapter ... it was a couple of sleepless nights but what a great book!
Oh, don't let me forget to tell you about the characters: growth, depth ... they weren't Hamlet, but they were fantastic.
The Bad:
Typically I don't love when each chapter flips between characters, the characters themselves were good enough to redeem this point, but just barely. I started many a chapter forgetting whose "turn" it was and loosing track of what was going on.
The Ugly:
Okay, not really ugly, but this book is a little creepy. I wasn't expect it AT ALL, which made it even creepier. So not only was I staying up late reading the book, but I was then awake wondering what every tiny sound in my house was ...
Who will love this book?
Oh, do you love a great romance? (that isn't the focus here, if you don't), do you like an edge of your seat adventure, do you like something a little creepy and are you okay with not knowing what is going on? You'll love this story!
How much did I like it? 8.5/10 (seriously, it was that good)
Will I read more? I'd like to say yes, but there just isn't any story left that I'm interested in. However, I'd take spoilers if someone wants to share them :)
