What I Read: February 2022

After reading almost nothing in 2021, I'm pretty pleased I've finished 12 titles in 2022, seven of which I finished in February. Hopefully that means I'll have a great reading year. 

Book Review: My Imaginary Mary

What a ride. There is nothing like a book that breaks the fourth wall so frequently and with such abandon for traditional writing. This trio of writers does like to take a non-traditional route through historical fantasy and I've enjoyed the ride.

I am struggling to put a star rating on this one. This is not my typical read. I don't know the last time I read a "beach read" or "chick lit" as this would probably be classified. The book was DELIGHTFUL ... for the first 50%. I felt like the story arch ended in the middle and then there was all this messy "real life" stuff afterward. I know this is probably how books like this typically read, but I'm not sure so I just don't know how to rate it. Don't hate me friends, I just don't typically read books like this.

Is that star rating generous, possibly. But I finished it last night and just enjoyed it too much to give it three stars.

So people spent the better part of six weeks prior to this book's release telling me how much I was going to like it because it was SO much like Six of Crows.

So I got it. And then I didn't start it. When people tell me a book is going to be amazing, I usually end up hating it. Then people were saying it was like Ace of Shades which was okay, but not really comparable to Six of Crows. So I avoided it some more.

I'll be honest, I'm always quick to judge a book by the cover and this book ... well, it lacked a cover that drew me in. I almost passed on reading it. This would have been a regretful decision for sure.
